Huawei foldable phone, ready for launch. What has changed since the announcement

The foldable Huawei Mate X was officially unveiled in February 2019, but it will be released only in September. What has changed since then?

The Huawei Mate X foldable phone was unveiled at the MWC in Barcelona, and the initial launch date was sometime in June. Due to the problems with Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei has decided to postpone its release until September to make sure there are no problems.

Since then, a few changes have been made, and the new phone would be slightly easier and have a smaller battery than the one originally presented.

What comes with Mate X, Huawei’s foldable phone

The final version of Huawei Mate X should have an 8-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. When folded, the screen is 6.6 inches and has a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. The dimensions of the phone (161.3 x 146.2 x 5.4 mm) remain the same, but the final version will be 8 grams lighter, the phone weighing 287 grams.

Where could this “weight loss” come from? Since the battery on the Huawei Mate X will be 100 mAh smaller than originally thought. The Chinese phone would have a Kirin 980 processor, 5G connectivity, and the battery would be 4400 mAh.

The model comes in different configurations: 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage space, 8 GB and 256 GB storage space, but also with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB. The phone supports nano SD cards up to 256 GB.

We had the opportunity to test the product for one hour in May of this year and I was impressed by the concept of the foldable phone, not necessarily the product that Huawei plans to launch.

We do not know yet if all Mate X models will be sold worldwide. What we do know is that the 8 GB RAM and 512 GB storage space would sell for 2300 euros in Europe. Most likely we will find out more at the IFA 2019 fair, beginning in September.
